For me, architectural photography conveys the experience of being in and around a built environment, a structure – either interior or exterior. In some cases, such as the Manzanar internment camp or Alcatraz, this may not result in comfortingly attractive images. In other cases it can result in images of buildings, bridges and other structures that are both aesthetically pleasing and accurate representations of their subjects. And finally, the seemingly impossible physics, the play of light and shadow, the masculine lines, the feminine curves, can all come together to create an incredible sense of fantasy and wonder in an abstract representation.
